Compost of Newborns – The Experiment, 2024

cover of booklet

“Compost of Newborns was an experiment between fungus Ganoderma applanatum as the main agency, and scientist J. Philipp Benz from TUM-School of Life Sciences, who was a fantastic companion for Ganoderma and me, ready to go beyond scientific rules, and between me as the artist, having a long story back with Ganoderma. Additional agencies got involved: Carbon emissions from the combustion engine of a Daimler car, wood from a maple tree trunk as the home wood our Ganoderma came from, and my human hair. The fungus’ behavior surprised all of us! Ganoderma intertwined with all the different agencies in a specific way. No matter how toxic or other they might be. No matter they were originating from a human, a car combustion or a plant. She created with her entangling mycelium body a new microbiome, an innovative tec-botanic-human holobiont of possible futures.” Chrismaria
